Introduction
Before You Begin
Am I building a life or just a living?
What brought you to this book โ€” and what are you hoping becomes clearer by the time you finish it?
Where in your life right now do you feel the tension between providing for others and being truly present with them?
Is there something you've been telling yourself you'll address "next year" โ€” and how long have you been saying that?
Foundation
Begin With Clarity
Clarity doesn't limit you. It frees you.
What are you actually building โ€” and why does it matter to you?
Where have you been saying yes to things because you weren't clear enough to say no?
Does the way you are spending your time right now actually reflect what you say matters most?
Where have you been moving constantly without covering real ground โ€” and what would it look like to have a clear enough direction to stay the course?
Rule 1
Mise En Place โ€” Preparation & Alignment
Your results are a reflection of your preparation. Not your effort. Not your intention. Your preparation.
Where are you managing chaos instead of preventing it โ€” and what would getting ahead of it actually require?
Is there something you've taken on, or are about to take on, where you already know you're not quite ready โ€” and what would real preparation look like?
Where have you been frustrated at the results around you without asking honestly whether your own preparation created them?
The Question Behind the Rule
Where am I not set up for success?
Rule 2
Taste Everything โ€” Presence & Growth
You don't improve what you don't evaluate. Really evaluate.
Where are you rushing through something in your life that deserves more of your presence?
What are you seeing out of the corner of your eye that you keep choosing not to look at directly?
When did you last slow down long enough to actually taste the season of life you are in right now?
Are you tracking your progress honestly โ€” or just the version of it that's comfortable to look at?
The Question Behind the Rule
What am I avoiding looking at?
Rule 3
Control Your Fire โ€” Focus & Execution
Misaligned focus creates overwhelm. The honest question is not whether you are working hard enough. It is this โ€” what am I giving energy to that doesn't actually matter?
If you looked honestly at where your attention went this week, does it match what you say matters most?
Who or what is currently deciding where your fire goes โ€” and is that your choice or theirs?
What has become normal in your life that should never have become normal?
What would change if you stopped chasing approval and started expecting compliance from the things and people around you?
The Question Behind the Rule
What am I giving energy to that doesn't actually matter?
Rule 4
Clean As You Go โ€” Execution Integrity
Every unfinished thing is a small withdrawal from the trust you have in yourself.
What have you started and not finished that you walk past every day without dealing with?
What is that unfinished thing actually costing you โ€” not just in time or effort, but in how you see yourself?
When you're having a hard day and doubt starts creeping in, what are the unfinished things that show up as evidence against you?
What would it feel like to go into next week with nothing unresolved sitting in the background?
The Question Behind the Rule
What am I still carrying?
Rule 5
Surround Yourself With Support โ€” Relationships & Influence
Your standards are not set by what you believe about yourself. They're set by who you surround yourself with.
Are you carrying something right now that doesn't have to be yours alone โ€” and what's stopping you from building the support that would make it lighter?
When you look at the people closest to you, are they the ones who challenge you to grow or the ones who make it comfortable to stay where you are?
Where have you been operating with the belief that needing help is weakness โ€” and what has that cost you?
Is there someone in your life right now who sees something in you that you haven't been willing to see in yourself โ€” and are you letting them in?
The Question Behind the Rule
Who is influencing my standards?
Rule 6
Serve With Intention โ€” Leadership & Legacy
Effort without purpose leads to emptiness. Effort with intention โ€” effort pointed at the growth of the people around you โ€” that's where the joy lives.
When you look honestly at where your time and energy are going right now, who are you actually serving โ€” and is that who you intended to serve?
Think about the people closest to you โ€” your family, your team, your friends. Are you investing in them in a way that builds something, or just getting through the time together?
What would change in your home, your work, and your community if you decided that how you show up for the people around you was the most important thing you did every day?
If the people whose lives you have touched were asked what kind of impact you had on them, what would you want them to say โ€” and does the way you are showing up right now reflect that?
The Question Behind the Rule
Who am I showing up for?
Closing
The Work Continues
Reading these rules and living them are two different things. The gap between knowing and doing is exactly where coaching lives.
Is what you're doing day to day actually moving you toward the life you want โ€” or are you working hard in a direction that isn't quite right?
If you could make one change right now โ€” just one โ€” that would start closing the gap, what would it be?
When things get hard โ€” because they will โ€” and the progress slows and it starts to feel impossible, what would it mean to have someone in your corner who can help you see clearly and keep you moving?
What has it cost you to keep trying to figure everything out alone โ€” and is that still a price you're willing to pay?

2 I am operating from a defined direction and not simply reacting to whatever comes at me.
3 I am moving toward who I want to become โ€” not drifting away from it.
4 I am doing the daily actions that the person I want to be would do.
